The Springfield Center City Association is a 501(c) 3 non-profit Main Street organization focused on the revitalization of downtown Springfield by promoting downtown businesses, preserving and improving downtown amenities and advocating for downtown development. Your tax deductible donation strengthens the voice for our downtown.
The foundation of the Main Street approach to downtown revitalization is the Four Point approach with preservation at its base, using those elements of quality that have survived upon which we can build a lasting, positive physical and emotional image for everyone who uses our downtown. These are the four elements that the Center City Association employs to build the positive image of a vital downtown.
1. Organization is the building of consensus and cooperation between the groups that play a role in downtown. Many individuals and organizations in the community have a stake in the economic viability of downtown.
2. Design involves improving downtown's image by enriching its physical appearance - not just the appearance of buildings, but also of street lights, window displays, parking areas, signs, streetscapes, landscapes, promotional materials and all other elements that convey a visual message about what downtown is and what it has to offer.
3. Promotion involves marketing downtown's unique characteristics to shoppers, investors, new businesses, tourists and others. Effective promotion creates a positive image of downtown through retail promotional activity and special events that uses downtown Springfield as a stage for community activities.
4. Economic Restructuring means strengthening the existing economic base of downtown while diversifying it. Economic Restructuring activities include helping existing businesses expand, recruiting new businesses, providing a balanced mix, converting unused space into productive property, and sharpening the competitiveness of downtown merchants.
The four point methodology works to create a total image for the community: providing the retail / professional area with its marketing niche, creating a cohesive identity unique to the community, and nurturing a cultural ambiance associated with downtown Springfield's location, appearance, and way of life.
Mission: Center City Association is the principal advocate for the sustained and methodical improvement of Downtown Springfield.
Vision: Downtown Springfield will be a dynamic community where people want to live, work and play.
