Center City Association Mission Statement
The Center City Association is the catalyst to transform downtown into the center for commerce, culture and community.
Downtown Springfield Vision Statement
Downtown Springfield will be a dynamic community where people want to live, work and play.
- In March of 2002, a R/UDAT visit, public forums and a report was completed.
- What Is R/UDAT? The Urban Planning and Design Committee of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) has been sending Regional/Urban Design Assistance Teams (R/UDAT) to various American cities since 1967. Teams are invited into a specific area to address environmental and urban problems which range in scale from a region to a small town, and in type from recreational areas to public policy issues.
- R/UDAT recommended creating an open space network.
- “There is a need for a real public park in downtown Springfield…parks are becoming major catalysts for the revitalization of the adjoining properties. There is a text book opportunity with the buck creek linear park” R/UDAT 2002.
- The vision plan will create an amenity-based destination in the heart of Downtown Springfield.
- The strength of this plan lies in its ability to connect, perhaps our most significant resource, the Buck Creek corridor, into the core of the city.
- This plans serves to leverage the nearly $100 million investment in the downtown over the last 10 years, in order to promote new infill development.
- The success of the plan relies on strong public and private collaborations.
- The unique role to the Center City Association is first and foremost to serve as a forum for continued planning, marketing, coordination and idea-generation. The Center City Association is the principal advocate for the sustained and methodical improvement of downtown Springfield.
